The Gamification of IT Learning

It has been around for a while now  but I’d like to introduce you to CloudCred, by VMware. With CloudCred, you can earn rewards for the things that you know about the cloud, virtualization technologies, slick vendor technologies and more, and learn the things that you don’t.

With CloudCred, you earn points by doing tasks. Those points increase your status on a leaderboard of members and, if you earn enough points, enter you in a monthly grand prize drawing for some pretty cool loot.

CloudCred is more than a just fun way to flex your cloud knowledge and earn bragging rights for yourself and your team. It’s also a way to rack up on rewards and get certifications that can help you grow professionally. Stolen from the CloudCred website, here are some of the reasons to sign up:

Challenge yourself
Go beyond the type of tasks you’re used to completing on a daily basis. You could learn something.

Get recognized
Raise your CloudCred score to climb the leaderboard and get noticed by other industry professionals.

Expand your influence
Grow your sphere of influence through tasks that help you build and share your perspectives with peers.

Get rewards
Score points with every task to earn certifications and great rewards like…

Get vExpert status
Earn the vExpert title for sharing your knowledge and passion for VMware technology.

Join the conversation
Add your voice to the discussions around today’s cloud tools and where IT is headed in the future.

Develop perspectives
Dive into and complete tasks covering a range of cloud-related topics to gain new insights.

Build your network
Get to know your teammates and other industry professionals through challenges and activities.

Improve your knowledge
Learn the things you don’t know about the cloud as you score CloudCred points.

Lets talk for a second about what we’re all really interested in… prizes. From weekly rewards to leveling up in the game to earn certifications, every point you score brings you one step closer to developing a real, in-depth working knowledge of the cloud and gets you closer to winning the grand prize. Every 20,000 points (which may sound like a lot, but I was able to rack that up after just three days of random play) allows you to prestige. When you prestige at any time during a 3-month quarter, you’re automatically entered to win whatever the grand prize is for that quarter! At the time of this writing, the grand prize is a GoPro HERO3.

But, the grand prize isn’t all you can get! CloudCred has categorized the other rewards into Personal Prizes and Professional Prizes. Personal Prizes are things like t-shirts, jackets, and other items that show off your cred. Professional Prizes are things like training classes, and opportunities to lead a session at VMworld. At the time of this writing, additional prizes include Paxcess Wireless Earbuds, Samsung VR Headsets, and Lego Millennium Falcon sets which have recently been hard to come by in stores.

Check out CloudCred today, join a team, get some loot and learn yourself some cloud. Get your local user groups involved and get more chances to win, and bragging rights worldwide.
